I’ve just posted a new build for Rekord Buddy 2. This is a recommended update for all users and includes the following changes:

  • FIXED: Adding tracks on new Serato volumes could cause issues.
  • FIXED: Some debug logging could cause issues.
  • FIXED: Folders with duplicate entries could cause issues.
  • FIXED: Some default content paths in Traktor could cause parsing issues.
  • FIXED: Some modification dates in Traktor could cause parsing issues. Warning are now logged instead.
  • FIXED: Organizing complex hierarchies of filters and oganized playlists could cause issues.
  • FIXED: Large integer values in Serato collections could be seen as invalid.
  • FIXED: App sometimes would close too early during launch.
  • FIXED: Deleting organizing crates off ‘Other Tracks’ crates now works correctly.
  • FIXED: Filters with filters can now be edited again.
  • IMPROVED: Warning dialog about backups can now be removed.
  • IMPROVED: Debug logging now creates a debug info file on the user’s desktop.

In order to get the update you have 3 solutions:
  • If you can currently launch the app without crashes. Doing so should detect the new build and offer you to upgrade after you click OK on the backup warning.
  • You can also go to the “Rekord Buddy” menu at the top and choose “Check for Updates”.
  • Failing all these, you can log into your account on Next’s website and re-download the installer. It will always contain the latest build.

I must admit that the concept of Rekord Buddy is pretty intriguing because of the existing hassles involved, but $60 bucks seems a bit steep for what amounts to a metadata copier doing a workaround that doesn’t solve the underlying issue.. I’m struggling with the concept of adding even more proprietary software to the process flow to fix having too much proprietary software in the process flow…

I hate to poo poo something that I haven’t tried, and maybe I’m missing something, but I can’t justify spending another $60 to potentially find out I’m only convoluting things further… that said, definitely give me a holler once you’ve got a cross-platform demo available to try out because I’d love to be wrong. Cheers and Happy 2017.

There’s nothing to “poo poo” on, as you put it :), it’s just an app and no one is obligated to buy it. The price tag is set as to what I estimate makes it worthwhile for me to work on it on my own, full time, as I currently do.

I would agree with you though, it’s hard to have an opinion on something without having even tried it. There will be a demo available once I have an it more time to spend on that. The current version, 2.0, is doing great and people are loving it. 2.1 has even better things in store.

I’d love to get your feedback once you get a chance to try it.

Ever since this latest update, my library never completes the sync. I always get the bug. Any idea on when this will be fixed?

Without more details it’s hard to diagnose an issue, let alone take a guess at when it will be fixed 🙂

That sounds like a great job for support though, why not drop me a line and describe the problem. I’m sure we can find a solution.

I have a similar issue, after 24 hours I am still sitting at “Syncing Your Music Files” this is my third run. No bug just sits there. I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 44k tracks. Is my library too big??

That’s how I got to this stage I reset the database and after I went to scan and build a new database. Thats when it started crashing so I decided to remove that next audio folder and it worked. Mabey there was a corrupt file in there left over not sure but it seems to be working now 🙂

Hi rekordbuddy team, I wonder if you could add “Duplicate hotcues as memory cues” option in Traktor preferences. Or is there any way to do so with modifying any settings of any software? My workflow for preparing for the gig is creating the playlists and marking cue points upto 8 in Traktor 2, then using rekordbuddy 2 to sync it into Rekordbox so I can make the usb stick with rekordbox to bring it to the gig. There are various usb-capable models of Pioneer CDJs depending on the night clubs. Some of them have hot cue buttons, yet some of them only have “cue/loop – cal” or memory-cue-call buttons without hotcue functions. For example CDJ-2000 nexus has hotcue and memory cue, yet CDJ-850 has only memory cue. I need to adjust “Number of Hot-Cues to output” depending on the CDJs now, which did not happen before upgrading rekordbuddy to rekodbuddy 2.

Before upgrading Rekord Buddy 2, the cue points marked in Traktor were converted into hotcues appropriately and all of them were also duplicated as the memory cues I believe. In older version with my settings I thought first four cue points marked in Traktor were converted into A, B, C, and D, and they were with memory cues as well as the rest of the cue points. It was so handy that I did not need to adjust “Number of Hot-Cues to output” of rekordbox section in rekordbuddy preferences depending on the CDJs. I was ok with any models of CDJs in the various clubs. After I upgraded from rekordbuddy to rekordbuddy 2, the cue points from Traktor 2 are only converted into hotcues yet no memory cues when I select 8 in “Number of Hot-Cues to output”. Again I make it a rule to mark upto 8 cue points in Traktor. Now I need to adjust that setting every time depending on the CDJs that club has. I cannot find the easy solution to duplicate hotcues from Traktor as memory cues in Rekordbox although I read through all the manuals of rekordbuddy and Rekordbox.

    Please advise. Thank you.

This would be easier to handle via support but here is the short story: The duplicate hotcues as memory cues for Traktor is on my TODO list. Currently RKB2 does the right things and converts Traktor hotcues to rekordbox hotcues but this may not always be what people want so this will be addressed.

Great if it can have “Duplicate hotcues as memory cues” for Traktor
soon. I choose 0(zero) for “Number of Hot-Cues to output” so that
various Pioneer CDJs can handle for the workaroud till then. Thank you

I love and depend upon Rekord Buddy, but working DJs need this “Duplicate hot cues as memory cues” feature to support the variety of versions of CDJs we encounter. Please let us know when you can add support for this.

I actually have a question. Rekord Buddy transfers beat grids between the big 3, right? So my songs in Rekordbox DJ that have two BPMs set (varying beat grids) will transfer over to Serato, correct?

        • Comment by Damien Sirkis

Damien Sirkis January 16, 2017 at 4:12 pm

Most should. Serato doesn’t support all types of beatgrid (it only allows grid markers every bar for example) so not everything can be translated, but most grids yes.

Hi there! I have already the rekord buddy 1.0 version but I cannot find the discount code 🙂

anyhow, besides that I have another question.

Since a couple of weeks i’m using serato (i am/was a traktor user), and i started to use rekordbox as my music library management system (previously just from iTunes)

    via rekordbox i can set my beatgrids on tracks with tempo changes (which is not possible in traktor), which is also possible in serato;

just to be sure, if i set these markers ands grids on the points where the tempo changes, these (if i have analysed and put hitches on) hotcues will also be synched from rekordbox to serato via recordbuddy?

    • Comment by Damien Sirkis

Damien Sirkis January 28, 2017 at 7:37 am

The discount code is in the dialog you get when you launch the 1.0 app.

2.0 will sync beatgrids between Serato, Traktor and rekordbox. Keep in mind though that Serato and Traktor do no support all the types of beatgrids that rekordbox does.

        Hi, thanks for the reply.
So i was able to get the code and yesterday i’ve purchased and did a first test.

When i beatgridded (only on the downbeats) a song in rekordbox (song had a tempo change), i only saw that my hotcues were imported into Serato.
I did not see the beatgrid at all. Do i need to anaylze in serato? (I only tested for now this one song).
I saw my playlists were imported bit i did not see the beatgrid (while in rekordbox i marked to export with bpm).

Hi Damien. I have two questions:
    1) When I use Rekord Buddy 2 to synchronize my music from Serato into Rekordbox, it lists all the playlists/tracks in the “rekordbox xml” section of Rekordbox. This wouldn’t be an issue if it wasn’t for the fact that Sync Manager (within Rekordbox) won’t export those playlists to the USB-drive. As of now I have to move the playlists from “rekordbox xml”-section to the “playlists”-section in order to export them.
Is there a better way to do this that I have not figured out yet? This is the first time I’m using Rekord Buddy, so I’m not sure if I’m using it correctly. 🙂 If not; does that mean that I need to delete the old playlists, import the updated ones and re-analyze all tracks every time I’m making changes in the lists?

    2) Is there any plans to implement support for Seratos “Smart Crates” in Rekord Buddy 2? Turning them into ordinary playlists when syncing to Rekord Buddy perhaps?

    • Comment by Damien Sirkis

Damien Sirkis February 3, 2017 at 3:39 pm

      1) That is the way as of now. I want to make this easier but I need Pioneer to work with me on this since the problem is in their app.
      2) This is a possibility. Not a high priority for now though given everything that’s on my plate.

    Hi Damian,
    I am seriously considering buying your software at the end of this month and am hoping I can use it in the following manner;
-I’m using Rekordbox with a DJM900/CDJ2000 nxs2 setup. I have to say the beatbridding in rekordbox is hideously bad. I tend to fix them on the fly on the cdjs and save from there but is a real ballache.
What I want to do is get a Serato club kit license now my hardware is Serato supported natively and return to that software as the ‘master’ in terms of beatbridding and music management then sync to rekordbox so when I export the tracks from rekordbox to USB I don’t have to mess about with beatbridding (as serato pretty much has that process down to perfection)

Please could you tell me if this is achievable by using Rekordbuddy along with any isssues as the software stands I may experience to help me decipher if what I’m hoping to do is in fact going to be a goer?

    Many thanks.

It is absolutely doable. Current limitations/annoyances are that Rekord Buddy will not read and smart playlists form Serato so you’d have to to those in Rekord Buddy if you wanted to do it in a single place (there are great ways to organize playlists automatically, check out the videos in the FAQ section), also rekordbox requires an extra step to import changes so to go from Serato to rekordbox USB you would be doing Serato->Rekord Buddy->Rekordbox XML->Rekordbox->USB which is a bit of a pain, but I have hopes to work with Pioneer on making that easier.

Just Installed the 2.0.12 (185) and now Rekordbox is not reading the changes in the rekordbox.xml file.
I checked the path in the preferences and everything is fine (check the photos), in Rekord Buddy 2 my playlists and songs are updated but when I go to rekordbox I can’t see any change. I also check the “Date Modified” of the rekordbox.xml file and it’s correct.
With the previous Rekord Buddy version everything was running smooth so what’s going on now??? I Didn’t change anything!
    1. why I don’t have a Save button after parsing the tracks??? This is a little bit confusing (check the photos).
    2. why the “Save” and “Revert to Saved” in the File menu are grey? It seems that I did nothing (check the photos).

Just installed 2.0.13 and after synching within Rekord Buddy some of tracks within Rekord Buddy have no information except for the track number even though what it synched too (Traktor/Rekordbox) have all the information. Why is this happening? Also when playlists sync it shows up in Rekordbox but not Traktor. Why is that?
